Dairy products are one of the basic four food groups and an important source of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals, notably calcium. Dairy products are the best natural source of calcium, essential for bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis in later life. During pregnancy women are usually advised to increase their intake of calcium, iron and foliate. Throughout childhood dairy products have an important role to provide that calcium children need to build strong bones and teeth.
